[This takes place right after the duet in Chapters & Choices]
Austin's point of view-
"I did it!" cheered Ally, jumping up and down. "I conquered my stage fight!" Her brown hair bounced as she jumped. I looked at her, my mouth curving into a wide smile.
"I always knew you could do it," I said.
"I'm glad you were out there with me; that was incredible! I feel like I can do anything!" cried Ally.
When I replied, I spoke with my heart, rather than my mind. The first time I've ever done so. "I know I can do anything as long as I'm with you."
We both stared at each other for a moment, leaning in simultaneously and slowly. My heart began to pound, harder and harder against my chest. Our lips touched for a moment, sending a fiery spark of electricity to course through me. We pulled back, and my hands inched closer to hers, waiting to feel her familiar warm hands. My breath is short and I held on to her. It felt as if she was the only real living thing, Ally, her sparkling eyes and pink cheeks.
My mouth opens just about an inch before I'm interrupted. I heard footsteps running towards me and a familar female voice saying, "Austin . . . I thought about it."
Uh oh. Kira.
"Yes, I'll be your girlfriend!" Kira squealed, wrapping her arms around my neck and hugging me. My jaw drops and I look from Kira and Ally. Ally was pale and looked as if she had seen a ghost. Tears ran down her cheek and she turned and ran away. I opened my mouth but no sound came out. I was paralyzed. Dez and Trish's voices call, "Ally, Ally! Wait!" Had they been watching us this whole time?
"Excuse me, Kira," I say polietly, gently pushing her away. I followed Ally, Dez, and Trish outside the cafe. Ally sat in the street, Trish's arms draped around her shoulder. "Look, Ally, I -"
"I get it Austin, it's alright. Really," Ally smiled weakly. But I knew it was fake. "Ally, you don't understand -"
"Austin, really. It's . . . my fault. We kissed and I knew that you chose Kira! What kind of friend am I?"
Ally's mom came outside. "Come on, Ally, let's go home. Trish, Dez, Austin, want to join us?"
"Sure," said Trish and Dez in unison. "No thanks," I answered. Suddenly I felt cold and my mouth had gone dry. I wish I could kiss Ally's warm, soft lips again. I couldn't lose her, but I couldn't stay with her. "I'm walking,"
I stuffed my hands in my pockets and walked off without another word. I sighed. Ally Dawson. I knew I didn't just like her. I knew. I loved her. But if I truly loved her, then there wouldn't be another girl, another choice. I would've chosen her from the start.
But I was an idiot and in way over my head.
I don't know how, but I had walked far. I had know idea where I was. I felt sick to my stomach. I was lost and had know way how to get home. I slapped my face into my hands and groaned. I'm so stupid.
I heard a honk and turned. "Augh!" I shouted, covering my eyes. A while blinding light just hit my eyes. I heard a a screech and uncovered my eyes long enough to see a car speeding towards me. I couldn't move. The driver was speeding on the breaks, trying to slow down and not hit me.
But it was too last.
The car made contact with me and then everything went black.
